Cartilage Replacement
In this procedure, a graft of a patient’s own cartilage is removed from one area of their body and is then sent to a lab where more cartilage is grown from the original graft. The new cartilage is then re-implanted into the joint where it is needed. The result is reduced joint pain which may have been caused by arthritis or cartilage-damaging injuries. The procedure is performed on an outpatient basis, and the patient can expect a short, 4-6 week recovery period.
